Abigail Williams Character Essay

Abigail Williams Character Essay Being hung because of someone elses lies, selfishness, and lustful temptations, seems fair right? This is exactly what happened because of Abigail Williams. 19 people were hanged during the Salem Witch Trials, which was consequent of Abigail Williams lies, and selfishness. Abigail was the young women that John Proctor had an affair on his wife with. After the affair, she became obsessed with John, despite his constant reassurance that what he did was wrong, and that he was through with her. She became obsessed to that point that she drank blood, and did a dance with the devil in order to see Mrs. Proctor killed. After this didnt work, she began telling lies about seeing others (including Mrs. Proctor) with the devil, so that she would be hanged and she could possibly live a life with John. Analysis and study of Abigail Williams in The Crucible shows that she is a villain with manipulative skills, and is a compulsive liar, who is motivated by sexual temptation and John Proctor. Abigail Williams is a prime example of a villain because of her actions in The Crucible. One of the things that she does to portray her as villain is she lies about Tituba forcing her to drink blood, when really she did it under her own will. While Abigail was being pressured into saying who was involved with the Witchcraft she said, She (Tituba) makes me drink blood! (47). This resulted in Tituba being brutally beat and eventually sent back to her old country. Abigail also victimizes herself, in order to make it seem like she is innocent. For example she says, She sends her spirit on me in church; she makes me laugh at prayer! (48) during a court session. Abigail is also really good at drawing attention away from herself because another time during a court hearing, when she was about to get proven a liar, she suddenly acted as if there was a demon in the room. She screamed with terror, Shes going to come down! Shes walking the beam! (120). All of these instances do a great job of sh owing that she knows how to play the role of a villain, by making herself seem innocent. Abigail has some major strengths that help her in being a villain, and those strengths are compulsive lying, and extremely good manipulative skills. Everyone knows that Mrs. Proctor is a goody woman in Salem; however, because she has something that Abigail wants she chooses to lie about the type of person she is in order to manipulate the way people view her by saying, Its a bitter woman, a lying, cold, sniveling woman, and I will not work for such a woman! (12). She also was asked if she was the one conjuring spirits and she answered by putting the blame and Tituba and Ruth. Abigail replied, Not I, sir Tituba and Ruth. (16). Betty (who has fallen sick and unconscious due to the conjuring of spirits) also even admits what she saw Abigail do, to kill Proctors wife. Betty exclaimed, You did, you did! You drank a charm to kill John Proctors wife! You drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor! (20). Abigail consistently lies about the doing of other people and tries to manipulate other people s minds by scaring them. The root of all Abigails wrong doings come from her unjust motivations, which has to do with her lust for John Proctor. Even though John is married to Elizabeth, she still wants John and is willing to do anything for it. She even says to him, John- I am waitin for you every night. (22). She also continues to fantasize about her relationship (mainly fueled by lust) with John Proctor. In front of Betty while she was unconscious she said to John, I know how you clutched my back behind your house and sweated like a stallion whenever I come near! Or did I dream that? Its she put me out, you cannot pretend it were you. I saw your face when she put me out, and you loved me then and you do now. (23) Abigail even ventures as far as to beg John to talk about his affection for her. She begs, Give me a word, John. A soft word. (23). All of her lies, sins, and vengeful feelings for Mrs. Proctor are consequential of her love and lust for John Proctor. Abigail Williams is a villain who is fueled by the motivations of lust for John Proctor, which brings out her manipulative strength and lying abilities. All the things that Abigail Williams did during the crucible, caused harm, uproar, and eventually death for a lot of people. If thats not a villain, what is?

Jacksonian Democracy   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Jacksonian (Democracy, Society, etc.) is a term used to describe reform during the time of Andrew Jackson’s Presidency. Specifically Jacksonian Democracy refers to â€Å"the general extension of democracy that characterized U.S. politics from 1824 to 1828.† Jacksonian Democracy and its support came primarily from the lower classes as a rebellion of sorts apposing the aristocracy. Even though it stressed equality, it was pro-slavery and anti-Indian (not unlike Andrew Jackson). Also there was change in both the political parties and the social reforms. Jackson was seen as a westerner (even though he was from Tennessee) and a president of the common man. This we can see when he married women out of the lower classes and the upper class was astonished. Also, Jackson had opened the white house to everyone on his inauguration day.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  During his time in office Political parties changed their names and were affirmed. Earlier when the term party was looked upon with similar meaning as faction, it represented a sort of selfishness and contention over unanimity that wasn’t needed in the government. The Democrats and the Whigs were the new names of the parties. The Whigs grew from the Republican Party and the Democrats form the Anti-Federalists. What brought this change were economic booms and downturns that had characterized the 19th century economy. Also Missouri Compromise (when Missouri’s proposed constitution admitted for slavery and to balance the states Maine was admitted as a free state) had a hand in bringing about the parties when a group of politicians (of whom Martin Van Buren was apart of) that were organized in a coalition for states rights and limited government that would be later supported by Andrew Jackson; also they help support Jackson for the presidency of 1828, they were known as the Democrats. Parties were also essential because they gave the Common man (which Jackson was all about) the power to compete (sort of) with the wealth, education, and social connections of the traditional leaders (fun?). The Whigs stood for Government controlled commercial development that incorporated what was called the American System, and wanted a high tariff that would benefit the North and its factories rather than the European competition, which meant more funds for the national governme... ... points in social reform from Jacksonian Democracy was abolition. The logic was that social reform also applied to slavery and almost more than any other institution. The reasoning behind this was that slaves resisted their own enslavement. Slavery was opposed in the 18th century by Quakers and few other whites, even though the American Revolution with its rhetoric about equal and universal rights called slavery into serious question. The Northern States abolished it and the Southern slave owners (upper south mind you) thought about liberating slaves. However it wasn’t until the 1830s that a number of middle class Norteà ±os (northerners) began to demand immediate emancipation of slaves for their incorporation as equals in the Republic. Just as other social reforms had taken root with mostly radical Norteà ±o Whigs, abolitionism soon found its way to them. This was a basis for the middle class revivals of the 1820s and 1830s. Rolls Royce has recognized that changes of its organizational strategies, aspiration and plans in growths over all the world will not be supported by the legacy resources planning systems which it owned them and the difficulty of theses systems to be fixed and development and because the important of the information technology and the internet to create process oriented business environment and how much is effective to transfer the organization from rigid structure to be more flexible, so Rolls Royce decided to sign partnership with electronic data service company (EDS) to find for it modern business solution system for the data information management and resources planning to be more flexible and modify of its requirements which is in its turn decided to implement the SAP enterprise resources planning system (ERP) on operation business unit (OBU) and in my point of view the step that sign with outsourcing partner to find solution to specific issue like what Rolls Royce did with EDS and outsourcing the IT solutions issue one of one of the steps have done by Rolls Royce to overcome the complications of the ERP implementation and let it just focusing on the its field of engines manufacturing. Challenges: Vietnam has become a country with significant import quota of food products in the last 10 years that lead to a lack of in-depth understanding from retailers, importers and distributors in Australian products and services available (Agribusiness Group, 2009). As a result, this fact has challenged the ability to promote Australian’s profile in Vietnam in ssociation with the capability for Victorian suppliers to see Vietnam as a feasible, developing market. There are similarities between Vietnam and other emerging markets regarding to a fragmented and non-transparent supply chain in association with noticeable challenges to exporters. The structure of Vietnamese Government: Vietnam is a socialist republic where features such as elected legislature, the national assembly, a president as head of state, and a prime minister as head of Government are included in its Government (The Vietnam education foundation, 2009). The Communist Party is the one holding the most political power of the country that its members occupy the administrative and executive positions in the Government. The decision of indicating who can run in election is made by the partys Fatherland Front and all Governmental policy initiatives are set up based on the guidelines of its politburo. The Communist Party general secretary is the most powerful person in the country beside the prime minister, the president, the minister of public security, and the chief of the armed forces. Women and ethnic groups have their own representatives in the Government. How to maintain a balance in regional interests is among the most crucial delicate issues in the Government. 2. Conversely, with the purpose to join in the WTO and other economic agreements, for example the Bilateral Trade Agreement with America, deregulation is recently happening. In particular, the import tariffs for these products are low to promote domestic value-added processing (Country report, Vietnam, 2009). As long as import tariffs and VAT are key factors in determining a producer’s cost structure and price plays an important role in deciding food industry sales in Vietnam, a close relationship with importers should be built. 4. Political risk When Dairy Farmers want to run business in Vietnam, they should analyze all potential risks which can limit their operation. There are some adverse problems in Vietnamese politic. Firstly, there are differences in controlling currency in Vietnam when compared to Australia. The Vietnamese Government efficiently pegs and controls the Vietnamese dong to fluctuate within a small range (Country report, Vietnam, 2009). Nevertheless, Dairy Farmers can use forward contracts, in which buyers will purchase a currency at a fixed price in the future. The origins of Vietnam can be considered as being formed in the past 5,000 years ago. Originally, Vietnamese society was separated to Annam in Central Vietnam, Cochin China in South Vietnam and Tonkin in North Vietnam (Gordon, Bernadett, Evans, Shapiro and Dang, 2006). Furthermore, there was an influence of Chinese in Vietnam’s culture resulting from the colonization over decades. In other word, this directly affects Vietnamese customers’ behaviour such as family oriented, concentration on freshness and balance of foods. 1. Language: Vietnamese or Kinh/Viet, which is officially recognised as the national language, is spoken by more than 80% of Vietnam’s population. Quoc Ngu and the Romanized transcription of the Vietnamese language was developed in the 17th by European missionaries (Balmer, 2009). Language plays an important position in marketing communications and Dairy Farmers’ marketers must pay attention to the differences in Vietnamese language. However, because majority of population speak Vietnamese but not English, the differences in natural languages can be a barrier that Dairy Farmers faces on the path of internationalisation. In Vietnam, children play a critical role rather than old parents. Accordingly, in consideration of needs in Vietnam market, ages and kids should be on high priority. This is a crucial point that Dairy Farmers should concentrate on. Health care products for ages, kid’s products are also recognized as big need. They should develop some particular products like milk for old people which provide extra nutrition, calcium or contribute to prevent diseases related to old age. Moreover, for youngsters, dairy products should contain purpose to stimulate the development of brain or to be a source supplying energies for children. 4. Manners and customs Interpretations to deduce conclusion in negotiations require a broad view of manners and customs rather than one’s own frame of reference only. Therefore, this is really important requirement for Dairy Farmers when they want to do business in Vietnam, where there is a diversified culture. Vietnamese’s manners are obviously reflected in the methods how they search information. Although, there is a bunch of ways to gain information, such as personal, commercial, public and experiential sources, Vietnamese customers are more willing to accept information from their acquaintance – words of mouth. They like to collect information from their friends, family members or other family people. Education / literacy: The literacy rate in Vietnam is 94% of total population, which is considered relatively high in case of a developing nation by Balmer (2009). Education, instead of success and material wealth, is the cornerstone of culture and family based. Indeed, an educated person is appreciated than uneducated one even from a rich family. In a conventional society, the top of the social hierarchy is the scholar, over the farmer, the artisan and the tradesman (Truong and King, 2006). Furthermore, after participating in WTO, Vietnamese regulations have been approved and developed to encourage overseas companies, particularly Dairy Farmers, investing into Vietnamese market. Finally, regarding to the cultural aspect, the particular traits of Vietnamese people, who concentrate on family, have changed in order to be able to adapt with the common trend in the world. However, couple with these advantages, there are some adverse problems which are required an in-depth and widely view from Dairy Farmers. These can be risks for Dairy Farmers in term of distribution, inflation, corruption or language barrier.
